Why it is not cotton.

Cotton is a poor conductor of heat. Its fibers are fluffy and full of trapped air, which is exactly what you want in January and exactly what you do not want in July, so the heat sits on the surface instead of moving away. This is built the opposite way: fibers spun fine and woven smooth and dense, so the surface carries heat off your skin the second you touch it. It is not about which fiber sounds more natural. It is about which surface moves heat.
